Holy Rosary School

ACADEMICS

The fourth industrial revolution has brought with it exponential change, at a rate we have never seen before. Our children are growing up in a digitialised world where the physical world and digital equivalents are merging and fundamentally changing the ways we do things. The future of learning will be profoundly social, personalised and supported by teachers and technology. At Holy Rosary, our transformation into 21st century educational approaches is based on sound, well-researched models and is relevant and topical to the South African child. The national curriculum is used as a guide and technology is used as a tool to enhance the learning experience and allow for greater engagement.

Enhancing the Academic Curriculum with Philosophy for Children (P4C)

Throughout the Primary School, Philosophy for Children (P4C) is incorporated into the academic programme. We live in a fast-paced and ever-changing world. New technologies replace the old; knowledge rests at our fingertips; we are bombarded by truths, half-truths and lies on social media; our world has retained and developed socially pressing problems and we have seen the rise of radicalisation. Philosophy for children (P4C) provides a safe place for children to voice their opinions as well as listen to the opinions of others. The four Cs of P4C aim to create creative, critical, caring and cooperative thinkers. The fundamental principle of P4C is to enter into dialogue within a structured setting. It is within this framework that our children can argue and participate in a communal manner and learn to evaluate their own arguments with regard to social and citizenship while engaging and acknowledging the points of views of others.
